Volunteering with the Society of Women Engineers GetSET program is an extremely rewarding way to share your love of science, engineering and technology with High School girls eager to learn.  We have many opportunities for personnel in your organization or company.  If you would be interested in more information, please contact:  getset.volunteer@gmail.com

Workshop Volunteer Orientation – Volunteers are given an orientation course (or refresher) that prepares them for how to interact with participants, including do’s and don’ts, best practices, and procedures on how to deal with a variety of situations.

Workshops – 3- or 6-hour workshops in Science and Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, Civil and Computer Engineering courses are provided at each grade level.  Courses are led and staffed by women volunteers, most of who are actively engaged in local industry.

Tours – All participants are taken on an industry tour that is provided by a local business.  Businesses provide guided tours of facilities such as testing and manufacturing facilities.  Businesses may also provide roundtable sessions with company engineers.  Senior participants are taken on a campus tour at University of California - Berkeley.

Evening Events – Special evening events are also planned, which include activities such as discussions on the college application process, round tables with college students, and other special events. Event examples may include…

·         Engineering Olympics – Is a special event where girls are broken up into teams and provided with three or four engineering challenges.  The teams compete to complete the tasks and are scored on the results.  All teams receive prizes, but the teams with the highest scores get first choice.

·         Girls Night In – One night is set aside to allow the girls to have a 'fun night'.  Girls Night In consists of fun activities arranged by the GetSET Alumni.
